| It's been a long time since I updated. Wow! Actually, a lot has happened between August 10th and now. A lot of exciting things.
Most of these "exciting things" have to do with the fact that the Lord has led James Post and I into a dating/courting relationship for the purpose of seeing if He would have us marry. It has been great to have his parents and mine involved in our relationship, praying for us, and counseling us. We are both encouraged by the prayers, support, and counsel of those close to us.
James is working on his MA degree in linguistics and exegesis at the Canada Institute of Linguistics near Vancouver, BC. He is a strong Christian man and desires to glorify the Lord with his life. He is preparing to be a Bible translator and plans to join Wycliffe and be a missionary overseas. He loves the Lord and His Word and has a heart that reflects God's love for all people. He is passionate about the truth of God's Word and eager to share and encourage others in the Lord.
It has been a joy to see the Lord working in our relationship. What an amazing time in our lives! God is so faithful and so good. Please pray with us that we will continue to be sensitive to His leading.
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous, or boastful, arrogant, or rude, it is not self-seeking or easily angered. Love does not hold grudges, or delight in evil. Rather, love rejoices in truth, and protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres (Gleanings from 1 Corinthians 13).
I am still working on finishing up my BA degree. I have a few more CLEP tests to do and maybe some DANTES tests. I am also working from home - I schedule sign language interpreters for deaf people.
That's an update on my life. Sorry it's been so long since I posted anything. I've missed the "xanga" world, but have started using Facebook a lot more. You're officially invited to come be my friend on Facebook.

| Well, it's over. I just finished the final exams for the classes I've been taking this summer. After working hard all summer and spending many nights up late (sometimes until 5:00 a.m.) studying, I'm rejoicing that it's all done. I have completed 13 credit hours of linguistic courses: Phonetics, Language and Society, Phonology, and Grammar. I have learned much more that I ever thought I would about languages. Very interesting stuff...I would love to learn more. Linguistics is not what I used to think it was, and it is definitely not boring! Aside from what I learned academically, I learned a lot personally...spiritually and emotionally. God is at work in so many ways and I'm excited to see what He is doing. I'm learning to trust Him more. I've seen His faithfulness in new ways this summer. He has been my sustainer and His mercy and grace have been unfailing, of course. He is true to His promises. I'm looking forward to coming home tomorrow and sharing my experiences. May I encourage you to take time to reflect on the Lord's faithfulness in your life? Yes, there are things that we do not know, but can we trust Him? He knows what He is doing. He is in control. He has a plan for our good. Let's walk faithfully and just delight in knowing Him. There have been challenges this summer, but the Lord is steadfast and my sure help. There will be challenges when I get home, but I can depend on Him. Please pray for me regarding a possible new job. I've been so busy with school that I haven't been in contact with my potential employer, but I need to get things figured out and soon because if I want the job I'm probably supposed to start on Monday. | | |

Yes, there are two racoons in that picture. I forgot to turn off my camera flash when I took this picture. The raccons didn't really like the bright light in their eyes and started hissing at me. I decided that one picture was enough. I'm glad it turned out pretty well.
Theresa's Birthday!!! We had 13 people at our place for dinner last Friday night to celebrate Theresa's birthday. We had a lot of fun. Dinner was fettucine alfredo w/broccoli, cheesy cauliflower, spicy potatoes, spaghetti, and green salad. For dessert we had fruit salad, a Romanian chocolate cake with pudding, and brownies. It was so much fun to have a lot of people over and to cook again.
This is a birthday card with "Happy Birthday" written on it in 28 different languages. It was so much fun taking this card around and getting different people to write in it without Theresa catching me. I don't know of very many places where you can find people to write Happy Birthday in 28 languages, but I guess at a linguistics school it's not that surprising. It sure is neat to see all the different ways of writing Happy Birthday. Sorry the picture isn't more clear. Maybe I'll scan the card another day.
This week we have midterms. I should be studying instead of posting an update on xanga. Maybe I'll go study now.
| The Chief This past Saturday I went hiking with a group of my class mates. We drove about 1 1/2 NW of here and hiked "The Chief". As you can see from the picture below, the front side is pretty impressive. Don't worry, we hiked up the back side.
Yes, we were headed for the highest point there on the left. This guy chose the more difficult way to get to the top (at least in my opinion). Here are some pictures to show what the trail was like where I went. Very steep, but when it was necessary they had chains or ladders to help make it simple. I was grateful for the good tread on my boots. Here's a picture of some of the coloring on the rock from water running over it. This should give you an idea of just how steep it was. I'm not yet to the top. Almost there!! Standing on the top. Yeah!! That was a long hike, but fun. I think both this chipmunk and this man are crazy...way too close to the edge for my comfort! I stayed away from the edge.
There was a small plane that kept flying in really close to us. I couldn't get a very good picture because it was going really fast. It was awesome though, he did some tricks a few times. This is a view from halfway down the mountain. And when we got to the bottom again we read the sign. I guess it might have been a good idea to read the sign before starting the hike. But, everybody made it safely and it was really fun.
| I would appreciate prayer as I study and take a dictation final and a theory final tomorrow morning for my Phonetics class. In dictation practice today it went really well for me, but who knows what my nerves will do for me on the final. And, theory....well, that's another story. Tons to memorize and try to be able to recall so I better just get back to my charts. Anyway, the tests are from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. After the finals I'll be playing violin for chapel at 11:30 a.m. I'm really excited because I'll sure be praising God that finals are over. | | |
