Hiking the Chief

The Chief
This past Saturday I went hiking with a group of my class mates. We drove about 1 1/2 NW of here and hiked "The Chief". As you can see from the picture below, the front side is pretty impressive. Don't worry, we hiked up the back side.

Yes, we were headed for the highest point there on the left.

This guy chose the more difficult way to get to the top (at least in my opinion).

Here are some pictures to show what the trail was like where I went. Very steep, but when it was necessary they had chains or ladders to help make it simple.

I was grateful for the good tread on my boots.

Here's a picture of some of the coloring on the rock from water running over it.

This should give you an idea of just how steep it was. I'm not yet to the top.

Almost there!!

Standing on the top. Yeah!! That was a long hike, but fun.

I think both this chipmunk and this man are crazy...way too close to the edge for my comfort!

I stayed away from the edge.

There was a small plane that kept flying in really close to us. I couldn't get a very good picture because it was going really fast. It was awesome though, he did some tricks a few times.

This is a view from halfway down the mountain.

And when we got to the bottom again we read the sign. I guess it might have been a good idea to read the sign before starting the hike. But, everybody made it safely and it was really fun.

Cool pictures. I guess I missed a bunch of your posts while I was on the road, too.

So you drove up the road that we came down to get to the Chief. Did you go through lots of construction? Sounds like fun.

Woah!  Not for the likes of me, but I am glad you were able to do it!  I am glad that you are getting to do site-seeing while up there.  God's creation is just amazing.  Thanks for all the pictures you have shared.

AWESOME!!! No fair! Wish I could have been there. I'm stuck here at MasterWorks where the people and the music are amazing but...as far as nature is concerned...well, there's much to be desired. But it looks like you had a blast!

FUN!!! I like the pictures. It looks like you had lots of fun. I like hiking and climbing, and NO heights and close to the edge does not scare me it just makes it more FUN.

Those pictures are amazing. Thanks for sharing!!

I forgot to tell you...I went on the June 16-25 Journey to the Heart--and it was awesome. I know you're pretty busy, but maybe sometime you could message me your email address (I'm not sure I have it) and we can share stories or something about JttH. :D

Hello!

My name is Ashley Dickson and I know your sister Suzanne. My older sister also knows you. Christina is her name. Anyway I just wanted to say that you are really tough! I wouldn't have been able to do that in a skirt. In fact, I don't think I'd be able to do it at all!
